Jelena Galic holds the position of the President of the Executive Board (CEO) of AIK banka in Serbia since 2015 and is the Chairman of the Supervisory board of Gorenjska banka in Slovenia, bank fully owned by AIK Banka.
Mrs Galic also leads Banking and Finance division within the Group in charge for strategic development and implementation, identifying potentials for organic growth, further mergers and aquisitions of sound targets within banking and financial service industry (FSI) aiming further enlargements and strengthening of the Group position at the local and regional banking market.
Before joining the AIK Banka, Mrs. Galic held the position of Managing Director for Business Advisory at Deloitte Central Europe based in Belgrade, where she was in charge of developing advisory practice and utilizing the “best practice” examples across this region. Prior to Deloitte, as Executive Director of the Economics Institute, Mrs. Galic was responsible for overseeing all business activities. On behalf of the Institute, she was an active participant in working groups, formed to develop key national strategies. She was in charge of numerous international development agencies’ projects (EAR, GTZ, WB, DFID, IFC, USAID, OECD) related to governance of economic policies and implementation of structural reforms within the financial sector, as well as complex projects for clients in the real sector of economy.
Under her lead, AIK banka has become the first bank in Serbia that has stepped out in EU Market by successful accomplishment of Gorenjska Bank acquisition in Slovenia in 2019. By this break through of entering the european financial arena, together with the acquisition of Alpha Bank subsidiary in Serbia done in April 2017 AIK Banka significantly improved its position both in Serbian market, where it is among top five banks compared to total assets and top three banks compared to net profit, and in the regional market as well.
From 2015 until now AIK banka received numerous international awards: Best Commercial Bank In Serbia by International Banker for four years in the row, Mrs Galic being awarded as Manager of the Year by International Socrates Award Ceremony, and others.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Galić gained significant academic and professional expertise with respect to finance and banking, not only at the strategic, but also operational level. This valuable knowledge she passes on to the young generations as an Associate Professor at the Belgrade Banking Academy. Mrs. Galic has participated in numerous domestic and international conferences, and has thus far published more than 40 works on monetary policy and stability of the banking sector. In addition, she is one of the founders and a former vice president of the Serbian Association of Managers (2006-2008), and a member of the Board of Directors (2008- 2010 and 2017 - present). Mrs. Galić also holds active membership in several additional organizations: The National Association of Corporate Directors, Business club ‘Privrednik’, Banking Board of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Managing Board of the Banking Association, Serbian Scientific Society of Economists. She is a recipient of the ‘Kapetan Misa Anastasijevic’ award in the category Business Woman of the year 2015.
Mrs. Galic holds a Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade. Her thesis explored the field of monetary policy and financial stability. She is fluent in English and German.
She lives with her family in Belgrade and has two children.
